Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe. We have been volunteering together as a network for years and ESN has always been a part of our lives. Regardless of whether we live in other countries or cities, we have always continued to walk hand in hand. In this blog post, you can find how we successfully manage remote teams in a coordinated way, even if we live far away from each other.

1- COMMUNICATION

Communication helps people express their ideas and feelings, and also helps us understand others’ feelings and thoughts. It is an important element about being a part of an remote team because we are constantly working as a team, so we can further develop our ideas as we talk and share about our work with each other. As we understand the opinions of our teammates, we strengthen our projects more.

2- ADVANTAGE OF TECHNOLOGY

With the development of the technology, it is getting a simplier way to keep everyone engaged. As the conversations over Whatsapp and mail platforms are generally short and informal conversations, platforms where everyone can stay in touch more effectively can be used like Slack or Discord.

3- BEING OPEN TO NEW SOLUTIONS

As your team grows, regardless of how many people are on the team, you will need to take advantage of different technical solutions to help everyone do their jobs effectively in a remote environment. This is a key technique to promote being open to new solutions in a network : support your teammates to think about difficult problems and reward them for their work on solutions. A team with a high motivation always does better quality work, and thanks to the loyalty of the people in the team, they can generate much more ideas.

4- BEING RESPONSIBLE AS A TEAM MEMBER

Collaboration and teamwork make resource utilization more efficient because more skills are used to do the job instead of a single person. Efficient use of skills also helps to increase the speed of completion of goals and objectives. Collaboration in the network creates a creative environment for the best ideas and solutions.
